This is simply a match made in heaven that I couldn't resist posting news about.

Yoji Yakusho and Masatoshi Nagase have worked together on a film by first time filmmaker/renowned Japanese photographer Kazumi Kurigami entitled Gelatin, Silver Love.

The official site site is now live with a beautiful trailer contained within. Shades of Shinya Tsukamoto come to mind at first viewing. Looks like this thing could be something truly special.

Lee Hae-joon, one half of the directing team who brought you Like A Virgin is back with a new film staring Jung Jae Young and Jeong Ryeo Won called Kim's Island.

This will be Lee Hae-joon first time directing without partner Lee Hae-yeong who he also scripted Like A Virgin with. Billed as a romance/drama, Kim's Island is due for a April 30th release.

A man named KIM jumps into the dark, quiet waters of the Han River. He wakes up and finds himself lying on an islet covered with sand. It is then that he realizes he failed to kill himself and simply drifted to an unknown island in the river.

In one of the riverside apartment buildings, there’s a girl who hasn’t ventured out of her room for years. One day, she catches sight of a man living alone on an islet through her binoculars and becomes intrigued. Day after day, his lonely but seemingly contented life triggers her curiosity and compels her to step out of her room after so many years.

King of Fighters Now Filming
Theatrical Release
Posted on 12 18 08 by Brian

Yeah, I know that the whole video-game / anime to big screen has gotten out of hand. The recent news of Keanu Reeves gunning for the lead role in the live action Cowboy Bebop leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

Ninja Scroll, Akira, and now Ghost in the Shell are next of many on the chopping block. Dragonball Z is proof that Hollywood has just begun the next round of torture for the classics we all grew up watching and loved. Did they learn anything from the first Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat: Annihilation? Super Mario Bros anyone?
How about Double Dragon, Fist of the Northstar, and The Guyver live action movies.

True, not all adaptations have been bad, but the bad outdo the good unfortunately. DOA: Dead or Alive, a guilty pleasure for obvious reasons to some, and Slient Hill from just off the top, have fans of their adaptations. I am not going to try to cover them all, because I need to get to the matter at hand. Yes, that young lady in the corner there.

Maggie Q, who is now filming Gordon Chan's live action adaptation of King of Fighters in Vancouver at the moment. Not a huge fan of the games, but I do remember spending many hours and quarters playing the arcade games back in the day. Don't have a story breakdown, but for this kind of movie do we need one? What I do have is a cast summary though. A small one at the moment, with more sure to come in the near future. Do out in the 3rd quarter next year, look forward to Sean Faris, Ray Park, Will Yun Lee, and David Leitch hoping to prove everyone wrong. We'll have more on King of Fighters as more info comes out.

In the mean time, lets keep out fingers crossed for the rest of the upcoming adaptations. Specially Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li due out February 27 next year.

Losing his cellphone, Uhm Tae-woong a entertainment exec, ends up being intimidated by an anonymous stalker played Park Yong-woo.

Before we call this one off, the teaser trailer can be viewed in the Official thread in the KFCCinema forum: HERE. I found Paradise Murdered to be a nice little gem, so I look forward to seeing what Kim Han-min can do with this.

More Kon Ichikawa coming from Masters of Cinema in 2009
Japan Cinema
Posted on 12 11 08 by Aaron

Criterion Collection was first to pay tribute to Japanese director Kon Ichikawa this past year by releasing his classics Fires on the Plain and The Burmese Harp and now Eureka!'s Master of Cinema will continue the legacy in 2009.

In what seems like either a commemoration or pure coincidence, the UK company will release two of Ichikawa's films within two weeks of the anniversary of the master filmmakers passing. Masters of Cinema will unleash both Kokoro and Alone in the Pacific on February 23rd, 2009.
